Charizard is inspired by a dragon and a salamander, with large wings and a fiery tail. Its name combines "char" (burning) and "lizard." In the series lore, Charizard is known for its pride and strong personality, often refusing to obey trainers until it respects them.

In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Charizard cannot be found in the wild. Trainers must start with Charmander as their starter Pokémon, evolve it into Charmeleon at level 16, and then evolve Charmeleon into Charizard at level 36.

Charizard is a versatile and powerful Pokémon, excelling in offensive strategies with its high Special Attack and Speed. Its Fire/Flying typing makes it effective against many common types, but it remains vulnerable to Rock, Ground, Water, and Electric moves. With Mega Evolution, Charizard becomes one of the strongest Pokémon in BDSP.
